The Lenten sermon series, “CrossWords,” provides sermons and worship resources for the seven weeks of Lent (includes Good Friday). This series, written by Concordia Seminary Professor Dr. David Peter, focuses on the words of Jesus which were spoken from the cross. Each week one of the sayings of Christ is examined, giving the listeners the opportunity to reflect upon the words of life which Jesus spoke while in the very midst of death. These words from the cross are His “CrossWords.”
The series is intended for midweek services during Lent, but the seven sermons also are amenable to weekend services or to the traditional Tre Ore service on Good Friday. The resources for each week include a full sermon manuscript as well as the following worship helps: thematic focus paragraph, hymn recommendations, versicles, thematic prayer, Bible readings, and a responsive psalm.
In addition, the .pdf file includes links to paintings by the French artist James Tissot. These art pieces correspond to the themes of each sermon and may be used for service folders, PowerPoint slides, and the like.
